The 111 LED light’s front cover is specially made from polycarbonate thermoplastic polymer.

Let’s do a deep dive into why we invested in making the 111 LED’s front cover with this special material.

Polycarbonates are used in engineering since they strong, tough, resilient thermoplastic materials and optically transparent. At the same time, it is lightweight and capable of withstanding extreme temperatures, either hot or cold.

Being virtually unbreakable with 250 times the impact strength of float glass and 30 times that of acrylic, polycarbonate is a great material for high-stress, heavy duty outdoor uses.

Although polycarbonate has high impact-resistance, it has low scratch-resistance. The characteristics of polycarbonate compare to those of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA, acrylic), but polycarbonate is stronger and will hold up longer to extreme temperature. Thermally processed material is usually totally amorphous and as a result is highly transparent to visible light, with better light transmission than many kinds of glass.

With polycarbonate’s high level of UV blocking capabilities and resistance to extreme temperature either hot or cold, sunlight, rain, and impact, the polycarbonate front cover of 111 LED lights lasts for many years without fading or discoloring, while also remaining damage free from any various impacts over the years.
