Across Vietnam’s offshore fishing fleet, a quiet but important shift has taken place. Many vessels that once relied on 100% 3800K LED lighting are now moving to a more optimized combination: roughly 60% cyan light and 40% 3800K neutral white light.

Why the change? Because fishing performance depends not just on brightness - but on spectrum.
Cyan wavelengths (around 490–510 nm) have proven especially effective in attracting key pelagic species such as skipjack tuna, yellowfin tuna, roundscad and squid. These species respond strongly to blue-green light, gathering more densely and staying longer around the vessel or the boat light.
At the same time, 3800K neutral white lighting still plays an important role. It provides balanced illumination on deck, supports crew visibility, and creates a stable overall lighting environment. The combination ensures both biological effectiveness and operational practicality.

The results have been significant. Based on LED 111’s survey with vessel owners, vessels using the 60% cyan / 40% 3800K configuration have reported catch yield improvements of over 50% compared to using 100% 3800K lighting. Combined with fuel savings, the overall financial benefits to vessel owners have been significant.
This evolution reflects a deeper understanding of fish behavior and light science. It shows that modern fishing efficiency is not simply about increasing wattage - it is about optimizing wavelength to match target species.
By fine-tuning spectral composition, Vietnamese fishermen are demonstrating how technology and practical experience can work together to improve productivity, sustainability, and profitability at sea.
Smarter light truly makes a measurable difference. At LED 111, we are proud to contribute to this triple improvement (productivity, sustainability, and profitability) since 2015.
